Sometimes the day, the week, the month just goes bad. People won’t pay you what you are worth (or at all) friends pass, family crumbles, hearts ache, stomachs growl and the world feels a tad more cruel than usual. It is on these mornings that I hope a bit of light will peer through the conflict and motivate my optimism. This morning I needed it more than most days, and then I remembered that arguably one of my favorite music collectives, WOODWORKS, dropped their new EP today. For the last few weeks I have heard snippets of this project passing trough their studio in Inglewood, CA, but have left my ears largely ignorant to what they were cooking. Now, as it plays out of my bedroom speakers, I find myself feeling the love, pain, frustration, and optimism from crust to core. What more can I do but close my eyes and sing along to the lyrics of D Smoke, Sir, T Gooch and Davion Farris loud enough for the neighbors to hear, “THEY DONT WANT A RIIIOOOOOOT!!” to cure my lows.
It’s 3 dollars on bandcamp - practically nothing. I am saddened by how cheap we have to let our art go for these days, these projects my peers bleed into. Support good art, go grab the REBEL EP, keep WOODWORKS in rotation.
