I’ve been falling into the cracks of Khalil Joseph’s videos for a while now. First hooked off a Shabazz Palaces joint, then his latest “Until the Quiet Comes” pretty much unspooled my world. How telling. How painful to look at. How absolutely trying on the spirit and also — how strikingly accurate, how resonant, how wide the brush stroke, but how specific the impression.
I think I’ve got a crush. And I think I like this one about a break up. I saw it the first time the other night, and since have realized that it was created in 2008. Prophetic. As if Khalil Joseph took the hourglass of my heart, cracked a tiny fissure, and let the sand seep out onto film. Tell you right now, brother try and dump me at Earlez Grille on Valentine’s Day, we got real life problems with each other. I’m not the one for Crenshaw heartbreaks.
